How did Café DNA start?
A. The original idea sprang from the fertile field that is Gary DeLucca’s brain. He approached four other frequent (Wizard World) Drawing Board contributors, Rob Nikolakakis, Jas Ingram, Shawn Van Briesen and Rus Wooton with the idea. The first project was the Madman set, and we made it a contest. The Wizard staff judged and awarded prizes, and we kept up with download numbers for “braggin’ rights.” I won’t mention who won the contest, but my initials are J.I. After the Madman set was done, we wanted to expand, since it had proven to be a lot of fun. We invited other Drawing Board artists and doubled our number for the next project. Why did we limit ourselves to AOL Wizard World people? At first, we promoted ourselves. We were able to upload to the Drawing Board at will, and be seen by a large audience. The fine people at Wizard saw that we were good for the Board, and gave us our own area of Wizard World. When Wizard left AOL, all our stuff there was immediately gone from there too. F
