How did Britain react to winning WW1?
The usual jubilation at winning a conflict was tempered by the staggering losses suffered by all the Allies, Britain included. Twenty million people died in the war, split about half and half between military and civilian. Large numbers of returning soldiers had what was called “shell shock” and we now call PTSD. Britain just wanted things to be like they were before, but that time had passed. She still had her Empire, but the war had caused economic and social problems that could not be easily handled. As the aggressor, Germany was saddled with huge war reparations [mainly due to the urging of the French] that she could not possibly repay, and the inevitable outcome was WW2.
