How did Black Angels first come to work with UNKLE?
MAAS: I got a call from our manager saying that James Lavelle and UNKLE were interested in working with us. We jumped at the chance. I’ve been an UNKLE fan for a while. James and I hit it off over the phone and it was on. They sent us ten songs and asked us which ones stood out. We picked “Natural Selection” straight away. We laid a track over it and they loved it. SHOCKHOUND: How did your second UNKLE collaboration end up on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack? MAAS: Since “Natural Selection” worked out so well, James wanted to do another song together. When the Twilight opportunity came to UNKLE, he asked if I wanted to be involved in a top-secret project. When he assured me it didn’t involve robbing a bank, I agreed. [Laughs] Through Skype, we worked together on the song for the movie. It’s all so futuristic. We put the track together in about three days. It was one of the last songs chosen for the soundtrack.
