How did belief in an afterlife affect the culture of ancien Egyptians?
To the ancient Egyptians the afterlife was seen as an extension of this life. This life was to them, just a stopping place on the real journey. This is the reason that they put so much effort in ensuring that the dead were well provided for.The tomb would be equipped with all the needs one would wish for, to begin another life in another city or country. There would even be real and symbolic meals left in the tomb along with clothes,furniture and household effects for the deceased to use during the journey and when they arrived. The body and the organs thought to be needed were carefully preserved and mummified so the when the deceased awoke they would have a whole intact and again beautiful,healthy body to serve them in there new life. The image of how they wished to appear in the afterlife would appear in the reliefs and paintings of the tomb. As would images of servants who would “come alive” to serve them there. They lived in fear that after death,during the Judgement of Maat their
