How did Barry view the business?
Barry had a strong relationship with his agent, his second, I believe, and stayed with her from early in his career to the end. Not to say that it was all rosy. They had conflicts but never big enough to cause a split. But he did sometimes talk poorly of various directors who tried to assert their interpretation of a role on him when he had his own, and I know also that he resented many producers who Barry felt shouldn’t have been in positions of power when they didn’t have the insight or brains for judging talent. For the most part he was disappointed with the business in general, not the art of it, but the business end and the bottom lines of it dominating artistic decisions.
