How did andrew jackson lead the trail of tears?
Jackson signed the Indian removal act of 1830 and believed that it was necessary to move any Indians that insisted on maintaining their tribal way of life out of conflict with the white settlers and their state and local governments. I think he respected Indian customs but he could see that so long as they refused to obey state and federal law, that they would be a constant problem for the US. He also knew from experience that foreign governments could and had provided the Indians with arms and incentives to wage war against the United States.
