How did ancient Greeks contribute to wester civilization?
The Greek city state of Athens was one of the first examples of democratic government. Rome may have conquered Greece but Romans considered the best teachers for their young men to be Greek slaves. So the Greek influence continued even after the country was conquered. Greek architecture has strongly influenced modern architecture and buildings like the Parthenon are still pointed to as some of the most beautiful structures in the world. The Olympic Games originated in Greece as part of a religious tribute to the Greek Gods who lived on Mount Olympus. Modern physicians still take the Hippocratic oath originated by the Greek doctor Hippocrates. Greek doctors were the best in the ancient world with Egyptians running a close second. How about the Greek philosophers Socrates and Plato?
