How did Abraham Lincoln effect the result of the civil war?
The emancipation proclamation freed slaves in states not controlled by the union. Lincoln issued that as a way to appease the confederate states but it didn’t work. Union armies freed confederate slaves through liberation saving over three million. Later in the war after the battle at Gettysburg Lincoln used the draft which caused problems such as the “New York Draft Riots”. Lincoln then moved the citizens to “finish unfinished business” so the lost would not have died in vain. this came to be known as the “Gettysburg Address” and was re-elected in 1864. Lincoln then promoted Ulysses S. Grant to general-in-chief and continued to mobilize Grant’s army to win local support. Sherman, another Union general, captured Atlanta in September which won Abraham’s re-election with a landslide. Because of the war he was constantly busy. Even lack of experience in military affairs didn’t stop Abraham from becoming a strategist for the Union. He was very keen and proved a great strategist although th
