How did a crocodile get into a stone Quarry which is miles from any water body or river?
The quarry is located at Vadavathoor, near Kottayam town in Kerala. The quarry is inside a school compound. There are no connections to any rivers from this quarry. A crocodile sighting was not reported any of the near by-rivers or ponds for the last ten years. Wildlife SOS Investigation reveals that some local people capture and keep wild animals as pets. We hope to soon have evidence which we will hand over to the Wildlife authorities. Wildlife SOS informers also confirmed that several religious institutions in Kerala keep wild animals such as Pythons, Jungle cats, Crocodiles and raptors in captivity for entertainment purposes. We have also received information about another crocodile being kept in a small pond nearby. Further investigations reveal shocking news that an active trade centre exists in Kerala where “baby crocodiles” are sold for as little as Australian $ 10 per animal.
