How did a comic convention get started in Phoenix?
MS: Our convention, the Phoenix Comicon, is a rebirth of comic conventions in Arizona. The last con prior to ours was in the early 1990s. Our first show was one guy making connections, delivering fliers, and talking it up, all the while cutting checks out of his personal account. But that first show brought together a strong solid cadre of volunteers who are still with us to this day. What began as a one-day show at a local Best Western has now exponentially grown like Giant Man into the large event we are putting on this September. CG: What made you think to put on an event of this scale? MS: Over the years, hundreds of volunteers and attendees kept begging us for a multiple day convention. It is just a natural progression for where we need to go. If we want to get the best guests of the comic world this is the type of show we have to put on. We also received excellent advice on how to get to this level from Pat Henry of Dragon*Con and Anthony Gallela of Origins who drew the map and h
