How devastating were the injuries to her face?
Dr. Prichard: She had no bony integrity to her face, as far as the right side of her face, including her jaw and her cheek area or eyeball socket area. She had no functional muscles in that area at this point, and all of her nerves were severely damaged in that area. How many specific fractures did she have? Dr. Prichard: She had approximately 10 fractures in her jaw alone. On top of that, she had fractures of her cheek, eyeball socket, and her – what we call the upper jaw, or the maxilla. Is part of the reason you were able to restructure her face because technology is so advanced? Dr. Prichard: Yes, absolutely. Technology has been advanced, especially in the area of nerve repair – getting the nerve function back in the face similar to if somebody has complete facial paralysis in that area, bringing back the face in complete animation so that she’s able to function normally, as well as look normally.
