How deep do outboard nautical motors submerge usually?
12″ is a good number but it also depends on the boat and the water conditions. Some boats work better when the motor is up even higher, less motor in the water, the less drag, however there is a point that is too high and the motor will begin to suck air and that’s not good. If your tuning an outboard boat for max speed I would look into a Jackplate. There are hydraulic ones that you can adjust from the helm, and manual ones that need some wrenching, they both let you adjust the motor position very easily.
