How deep can a diver go without a skin suit?
In 1956, Erminio Falco set a world record by diving without a skin suit or any other diving equipment. He went 127.92 feet down into the balmy waters of the Mediterranean. Andy just learned that this diver is now working on a research project off Point Loma, near San Diego, Calif. His team of experts is testing the tricks of diving in depths up to 100 feet. They caution that no one should dive below this level without special equipment. The need for a skin suit depends not so much upon the depth of the dive, but upon the temperature of the water and the physical condition of the diver. In polar seas, even surface swimmers need skin suits to keep out the cold.
