How dangerous are fixes like the “Towel wrapped Xbox”, and Penny tricks?
These fixes are very dangerous for the xbox due to the physical damage they can cause. The towel trick in particular, which in our opinion is the worst, involves wrapping an Xbox 360 system in a towel and allowing it to overheat. This is a very crude form of reflowing an Xbox 360, and while it does perform what is intended somehwhat, the damage it causes is overheating of all other components inside the Xbox. Capacitors, resistors and other crucial components cannot handle the heat that builds inside the xbox. Therefore, serious damage occurs. As for the penny trick, it involves stacking pennies on the RAM (Memory) chips to help them “cool”, which in real life, all it does is push in the chips, and cause damage over time.
