How critical was the ignition timing settings on the Wildcats?
I’m no expert on this, but what I can tell you is Les would put an enormous effort into getting the ignition timing absolutely spot on. He would affix a 360 degree timing wheel to the end of the crankshaft and then painstakingly rotate the backplate a little at a time, checking the timing with a bulb and battery until it was exactly to his specifications. This was all part of Les Rafferty’s meticulous engine preparation.
