Are you sure that you did not intend this question for the theology section? It is, of course, absurd, and if you read the Bible and take it literally literally, the questions do not get answered but multiplied. The dimensions of the Ark are all wrong for the purpose, the time scale to collect all the animals together impossible etc. etc. But this should reveal immediately that the purpose of this reworking of a common folk tale from the East is religious and not historical or scientific. Remember that an Ark is not a boat but a box intended to ‘contain’ the presence of God, exactly the same (if a little bigger) as the Ark of the Covenant. Just as the writer of stories about the latter did not believe literally that God was contained within it, the writer of the Noah story does not have as his prime purpose anything other than to represent the continuing protection of God for his creation whose future he guarantees by holding it safe above the waters (remember that in the creation acco
