I don’t know the students in question, but it is possible to graduate high school early. There are so many options for getting high school credits now that it is very possible. They could have taken online classes or night school, for instance. In our district 7th and 8th graders who are advanced can take some high school classes, and we also have a diploma option that requires fewer credits than a standard diploma (it doesn’t require some classes such as two years of a foreign language – the down side is that some colleges that want those classes will not accept these students, but most community colleges do, as do most vocational programs). It’s not always a great idea to graduate that early, but for students who are supersmart. motivated, and mature, it can be a good thing. There are even some kids who have graduated from college in their early teens.
