How could I transfer the original number plates back on my car and sell the current private plates?
You can put the plates on retention, basically a bit of paper entitling you to the right to assign the plate to another vehicle(you don’t actually own the plate, just the right to assign it) Last time i did it it was £125 to put it on retention, takes about 6 weeks to complete(well, it’s the DVLA…….) The car will generally be issued with it’s original registration unless unavailable, i;e; the car had that plate from new. Yes, you can sell it privately, best bit of advice i could give you is to try selling the plate to a dealer, they will all want to sell it for you, but if they want to actually buy it from you then it’s a sellable plate.
