How could firing a gun be family fun?
A company that advertised a replica gun as giving “hours of family fun without danger” has been criticised today. Modern Originals included an entry for a replica of an American revolver in catalogues it sent out. The advert said: “Here is a perfect compressed air replica, which fires 6mm pellets from its 12-round magazine. “It has a safety catch, and a single movement of the breech cocks it, to give you hours of family fun without danger.” A member of the public complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), saying the advert was “irresponsible”. Direct and Specialised Distribution Company, which owns Modern Originals, said the catalogue was mailed only to men aged between 50 and 70. The firm, based in Altrincham, Cheshire, maintained the gun was not dangerous to use but agreed to remove “hours of family fun without danger” from the advert.
