How corrosion resistant is NiTi?
The corrosion resistance of NiTi alloys is highly dependant on the surface condition. Materials with as-drawn and heat-treated surfaces are more susceptible to pitting corrosion due to the presence of heavy oxide and processing contamination. Materials with a passive oxide layer, such as mechanically polished or electropolished and then passivated parts, are highly corrosion resistant and have the ability to repassivate in the event of a small local destruction of the passive film.
