How competitive is it to get into nurse anesthetist school?
It’s not that tough right now. We are suffering, just like nursing is, as far as numbers. Remember, if you want to be a nurse anesthetist, the schools are taking those students out of the nursing pool and there are so few nurses right now-even fewer that have a bachelor’s degree and even fewer that are really interested in moving into an anesthesia career. So if you are a good, qualified RN with a bachelor’s degree with some experience, you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble getting into school. A lot of the schools are looking for good candidates. A lot people are applying that you don’t want in there, but as far as a good candidate, they should have no trouble. How demanding is this job on your time? My line on that is I have great hours, they’re just terribly unpredictable. You always have to have somebody on call twenty-four/seven. In our particular situation, we have a staff of four people, so it’s every fourth night and every fourth weekend you are on-call, plus you work your regula
