How compatible is a hospital with a port?
The New Royal Project Team has worked with Tasports to ensure that the proposed development at Macquarie Point does not compromise the working port area. The location of the private hospital has been moved to accommodate concerns about the encroachment onto an area of ports land, resulting in a new boundary between the proposed hospital site and Hobart Port that will address the needs of both activities. Plans for the new hospital have been adjusted to reflect this boundary. Tasports understands the footprint it requires for now and into the future but it will review the outcomes of an independent assessment it has currently underway before agreeing to any change. Port activities are only one source of noise that may affect the hospital, other sources include the noise from a helicopter landing and taking off from the helipad located on the hospital roof and general road noise.
