How common is it that a Chihuahua is born without a tear gland and needs eye surgery to correct the problem?

Question submitted by: uniqueku@aol.com We own 10 chi’s but one of them was born without a tear gland in her left eye. We are taking her to see a surgeon in Springfield, MA. next week. They tell us that a gland can be taken from her neck and placed in the eye. How common is this, have you had any experience with somthing like this, or is there any information you could share with us? We are somewhat hesitant about the surgery but she really seems to be uncomfortable no matter what else we have tried, such as, ointment, drops, and antibiotics that we even had to have special ordered from Canada. Any input you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Trudy *********************************************************** While this is not common, I have heard of a few cases this has happened.
