How common is it for schools and preschools to not allow peanut butter?
A. It is more common today. Many preschools have decided this is the safest route when it comes to the dangers of the allergy. Some have banned peanut butter altogether. Some only ban it if an incoming child reports the allergy. Young children cannot be responsible enough to avoid this yummy food. The children who know they are allergic do not have the reasoning skills to avoid the treat when it is handed to them. Kids who are not allergic do not fully understand that they are not supposed to share this one item with certain kids. Elementary schools have experimented with the ban, but as the kids get older it is less necessary. The primary grades often still avoid the dangers of peanut butter when there is a known allergy.
