How common is acid erosion in teeth and can it be fixed?
It’s not acid erosion. It’s worse. You should see a dentist. Acid erosion would only cause white spots on your teeth…spots whiter than the rest of the tooth. This comes from drinking soda and eating highly acidic foods. But “transparent” teeth and cracks are totally unrelated to acid erosion. Get checked.
It depends on what is causing the acid erosion. Diet drinks and mountain dew can cause this problem–ask any dentist. Also, acid reflux from the stomach such as when you sleep can erode teeth. Too much citrus juice can do it also. I think that dentists can put a special coating on the teeth to prevent cavities, so they should be able to help you. “Crowns, veneers and in extreme cases, tooth replacement is required for treating enamel erosion.” http://www.dental–health.
As far as I know, acid erosion is an emerging issue for 21st Century dentistry. This is the damage caused by acids — often from food sources — softening the surface of the tooth’s enamel, which is then more easily worn away. Try to see your dentist on how you can fixed it but so far you can prevent further acid erosion by the use of dental products such as Sensodyne Pronamel – Brushing twice-a-day with ProNamel may help to restrengthen the softened enamel layer, increasing resistance to acid attack. ProNamel also provides relief for sensitive teeth.
