How common are tree failures?

0

Fourteen trees have fallen or have been removed for public safety reasons during the last five years. In the past four years, four trees have fallen in the main avenue. The failure rate is increasing, with two trees falling in July 2005. The first tree failed at the base and collapsed onto the main avenue near the Sandringham Gardens in Hyde Park North. The second tree failed due to a structural defect in the tree – an inherent problem in all Hills Figs, with a large branch fell across the public footway near the Archibald Fountain.
