How common are missed miscarriages?
I think there is some confusion about what a missed miscarriage actually is. My understanding is that a missed miscarriage is when the baby dies in the womb, but you don’t miscarry right away. This is what has usually occurred when you hear of women going in for their ultrasound, only to be told their baby has died and I am sure it is a very rare occurrence…the likelihood of miscarriage decreases dramatically after you’ve heard the heartbeat of your baby. Many women miscarry in the first few months of pregnancy without noticing it, because of the lack of symptoms and what they pass is just blood and clots…but this is not the definition of a “missed miscarriage”.
