The Psychology Department is highly committed to the development of culturally competent professional psychologists. This commitment is explicitly reflected in our mission statement, and in our Multicultural Competency requirement for all graduate students. The work of the Department’s Task Force on Multicultural Awareness and Diversity and the standing Affirmative Action Committee are excellent examples of faculty and students working together to build a psychology program that is responsive to the needs of a diverse America. The Psychology Department has taken a leadership role on campus in matters of diversity and multicultural awareness as evidenced by the co-sponsorship of the annual Diversity Week program, and our award-winning collaboration with the URI Multicultural Center. Our graduate programs are of high quality, are APA accredited (clinical and school), and have an increasing number of students of color.
