How Comfortable is a Seawind 1000?
To answer to this question, three categories come to mind: Crew Protection, Boat Motion, and Accommodations. Update July 2004 – added a fourth category: Mental Comfort and Visibility. CREW PROTECTION, updated July 2004. The Seawind offers superb crew protection from the elements – relative to other boats, one’s exposure to sun, rain, and waves is minimal due to the high-visibility bridgedeck saloon which opens directly to the cockpit – one sails the boat very protected almost all the time. Unless racing, there is simply no reason to get behind the wheel – the autopilot (especially with a remote) does it just fine. Even behind the wheel, one is well-protected. On KatieKat, with my non-standard modification of placing the main halyard winch on the mast, there is the occasional need to go forward to reef/unreef; however, this is very quickly accomplished and the conditions must really be rough for one to even get wet – and then it’s just a few splashes.
