How come WebMerge doesn let me select my AppleWorks file?
When you click WebMerge’s “DB Export File…” button, WebMerge presents a standard file selection dialog. The files that should be showing there are of type ‘TEXT’, which should be the file type of any exported files from either FileMaker Pro or AppleWorks. Keep in mind that the file must be exported. WebMerge cannot work with the proprietary file formats used by other programs. AppleWorks (and most other database and spreadsheet programs) provide an option save the file in tab-delimited plain text (sometimes called “ASCII Text”). To save a file as tab-delimited text from AppleWorks, first open your file in AppleWorks, then choose “Save As…” from AppleWorks’ File menu. The Save As dialog has a popup menu listing file types AppleWorks can write. Choose “ASCII Text” from that popup menu. You may also with to change the name of the file by adding “.txt” (e.g., “MyDatabase.txt”) to clearly distinguish the exported file from your native AppleWorks database.
