How come the Parklands remain closed to vehicles?

0

Longtime residents remember a time when the Parklands were wide open to vehicle traffic and it was easy to drive to the three “Fireplaces” (picnic areas with grilles and concrete picnic tables), and many of the fishing spots at the north end of the pond via the Dutcher or Hazel street entrances. So why the change? 1) Open access led to a proliferation of illegal trash and building material dumping within the Parklands. Pick up and disposal of this material became costly.
