How come the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
Because, considering it is the job of the Holy Spirit to convict people of their sin and realize their need for Christ’s atoning work on the cross, some consider that “blaspheming the Holy Spirit” is the * rejection * of that message. So, in other words, the blasphemy is to reject the idea that one is in need of Christ’s atoning work. Others say that the blasphemy is caused by attributing activities of God to Satan. I tend to side with the first, but am not completely convinced either way. The first makes more sense because, in the end, it results in one not accepting Christ, meaning salvation is not attained. If salvation is not attained, sins are not forgiven.
No one who does this can be forgiven, because it is through the Holy Spirit that we are forgiven. So just as pulling the main breaker in your house means that you can never receive electricity, blaspheming against the Holy Spirit means that you can never receive forgiveness, because it turns off the tap through which forgiveness flows!
no they are different entities one god the holy spirit leads people to repent and turn from sin if you reject the holy spirits calling to repent you can never change and are thus condemned. Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The idea that the Father is the same being as the Son is the same being as the Holy Spirit is a false idea called Modalism. To gain a better understanding about the Trinity – one that is biblical – go to reasonablefaith.org where you can find podcasts on the subject. Examine what Dr. William Lane Craig says and see for yourself whether you believe what he is saying is true or false. I apologize that I am not intelligent enough to explain this topic thoroughly.
blasphemy against the holy spirit, isn’t “saying something against the holy spirit”. It basically means, someone being so sold out to idolatry, that the can’t genuinely accept Jesus Christ, because their conscience is so fried. I’ve seen a great many people absolutely terrified as a result of misunderstandings of that concept. Salvation is absolutely available to literally anyone at all who will accept it, no matter what they have ever done. The unforgivable sin, is a matter of someone being so far off base, that they never genuinely would accept salvation. That’s what’s such the big problem with it. The refusal of relationship, is absolutely not, on God’s part. The holy spirit that provides us with eternal life, simply does not live in someone who won’t by free will accept it. That’s the nature of, “blasphemy against the holy spirit” Someone who would revile that acceptance to the point they would never receive it.
