Well the quality you get will depend on the quality of the original satellite images. My guess is that a lot of these images come from military satellite and therefore there are going to be some areas that are of less military interest than others and therefore the quality of the images is going to be lower. There isn’t a satellite up there taking images just for Google Earth.
