How come the attachment file I sent got garbled?
There are several possibilities: a. Since SVPAL uses MIME to “translate” attachments, your correspondent’s system must be using MIME, or a MIME-compatible “translating” feature. If both systems use MIME, then the file must be read by the same program which created it, i.e., Lotus, Wordperfect, Excel, Word, DBase III, etc. In addition, the file must be readable by the receiver’s version of the program. If you send a Lotus version 3.1 file to someone, they *cannot* read the file with Lotus version 2.3. b. To be read as an ascii or text file, a file *must* be in ascii or text format before it is sent. c. Transmission errors are very infrequent but can occur when a file has to bounce from computer to computer before it reaches you.
