How come Surge Troops are not yet home?
Paul Munnis Among much fanfare and bombast during 2007 the Bush Administration argued for a surge of 30,000 troops to result in the return of 30,000 surge troops in September. It is now almost December of 2007 and there is nary a trooper in sight. We learned from the LA Times report today that only 5,000 are coming home in December with 20,000 more to return next July 2008. It seems like the Administration is lying to the public once again. There is one big credibility gap here with no accountability for it and Congress is mum. As the military chews up more money supporting the added forces in Iraq, their money is running out. By mid-February it will be gone leaving 20-25,000 of our surge troops stranded along with the total force of about 160,000 U.S. troops. Also, the Iraq Army forces are coming online and there are plenty of boots on the ground now. We should be withdrawing troops and downsizing to match the increase of Iraqi military people. None of that is being done either. Congr
