How come Rita Farr no longer thinks her powers make her a “freak”?
Rita is almost like the mom of the group, looking after them and adding a little touch of normalcy to this team of “freaks”. JB: Rita Farr was always the ringer, I felt, in the whole “Freaks” concept of the Doom Patrol. While Cliff and Larry clearly had no choice about being what they are all the time, all Rita had to do to not be a “freak” was not use her power! It’s not like she lived in a world where what she did was all that extraordinary, after all (altho, granted, the original Doom Patrol existed in something that was not yet truly a “universe”, and altho characters would meet in each other’s titles, the editors tended to operate as if the books were mostly independent, most of the time). In the more clearly defined “universe” in which the “new” Doom Patrol operates, there is no reason for Rita (or anyone else) to think of her as a “freak”.
