How come professional degree earns more than Doctorate?
While it can take longer to earn a doctorate than it can to earn a MD, MDs who make a lot of money spend another 5-10 years in specialized training, whereas someone with a PhD might only spend 2-4 years in training, if that, after the PhD. Also, the MD has a lot more practical applications than a PhD – with the PhD you can teach, or sometimes work for the government or in industry, but those jobs don’t tend to pay a lot, especially if you rely on government funding, like through NASA or the NSF as many PhDs will (at least in the sciences). Yeah, it sucks, but we’re not in it for the money – if we were, we’d have gone to med school instead.
