How Come New York had a 10% population decrease in the 70s?
All of these answers are correct, however, the biggest reason that there was a population decrease is because NYC over taxed businesses, which ended up costing people jobs, and then with the lack of new opportunities, people left the city. The city also paid for this by basically going bankrupt, and laying off cops, firemen, sanitation guys, and other “unneeded” personnel. They paid for this choice with a HUGE crime rate, a dirty city, and other community issues. Luckily, they learned the error of their ways (to a point that is), and the city is cleaner than its ever been, and a city thats the safest big city in the world.
