How come my firewire pc card does not fit in the slot of my new Dell lap top?

I am not sure on the model FireWire card or the model notebook you have, but I will attempt to answer your question the best I can. Most likely if this is a newer notebook model it has an “ExpressCard slot” and it will not work with an older PCMCIA card. While it will appear to fit it is not a good idea to force it in because it will do physical damage to the card/slot. There are two possible solutions to this. The first solution is to look at buying a new ExpressCard FireWire card. The second solution is to see if the notebook has a FireWire port. If it happens to have a port but the cable does not fit, then you might be able to get a different FireWire cable to make it work. I hope this helps. If I am not reading your question right please let me know and I will try to update my answer.
