How come cats get diarrhea if all they eats is dry cat food?

Cats can get diarrhea from a multitude of other reasons:

  • Stress
  • Change in diet
  • Illness

If you recently changed your dry cat food to something with higher protein, it could be that it is very rich for your cat. While cat foods with protein are generally much better for your cat (and make for a much shinier fur coat), many dry cat foods have rice or starches as the main ingredient.

To help alleviate the diarrhea, add some COOKED rice to the dry food. If the problem persists, seek veterinary care immediately. Continuous diarrhea can lead to dehydration and other life-threatening issues.
