How come Asian students outperform students of other races?
Asian students, in their countries and by their families, are extremely pressured to be at the top. Their colleges select only a few to go to colleges. I have a colleague that is from China. He’s very smart, but the colleges he needed only accepted 200 of the top students from high schools. Sounds like a lot? Well, think of the millions that live in China. Plus, their society is VERY focused on education, and the parents, esp’lly the mothers are supposed to be there to help them so that they succeed. It is highly competitive. Match that with the education in the US. However, our govt would rather spend billions on military and other matters than on education, thus we have programs and teachers that are not very good- we simply don’t have the money (well, we do, but the govt thinks it is better spent elsewhere, so there’s only so much the teachers can do).
