How come almost all pop singers sing in the same vocal range?
actually, most songs and singers are written mid-range, as that’s where most voices take place. A notable exception is Elton John, because he is a tenor, and writes where he sings most comfortably. During WWII, there was a real fad for low men’s voices, probably to show how virile and masculine American men were. This trend continued up till the 70s, when the mid-range voices started coming back, and the boy bands started experimenting with their falsetto registers. The craze for high took over in the 80s, and hasn’t really started going back to the middle yet. However, vocal statistics say that most voices ( 80%) are somewhere in the middle, and the extreme voices ( very high or very low) are the exception rather than the rule. We’re talking full voice here, not the falsetto register ( for guys) or whistle register ( for girls), but the ability to carry up the full sound. That comes only with vocal training.
