How closely does the movie follow the book?
The Ninth Gate is basically a sub-story from Prez-Reverte’s much longer and more complex novel about the search for a lost chapter of Alexander Dumas’ The Three Musketeers (1844). The most notable change between novel and movie is that Polanski altered the appearance of the engravings in order to incorporate the faces of some of the actors.
