How closely does the 1939 film version of Wuthering Heights stick to the original story?
It’s not close to the book. In fact, the movie leaves out the entire second half of the book. I’ve seen eight different movie versions of it, (yes, there are at least that many…) and the only one that’s close to the book is a 1978 movie version starring Kay Adshead and Ken Hutchison. However, if you are in the U.S., you probably won’t be able to find it anywhere. I had to special order it from Europe. Don’t try to use one of the movies in place of the novel.
