Unfortunately in the UK networks are not governed by any law that says they have to unlock our handsets, even after a contract is finished. Apple’s iPhone and Blackberry’s Storm are great examples of this. Both are locked to networks and the networks will not unlock them. Most networks will however unlock a contract phone after it’s finished and a PAYG handset after so many months. If they won’t do this then you are going to have to go down the avenue of the local networks high street shop or local market. Both should do it for between £10-£20. You can get codes online but it depends on the make. Sonyericsson are incredibly difficult, as far as I know you can’t do it by a code alone (software required) http://www.moneysavingexpert.

you can get an unlocking code either by asking your service provider( if you purchased the phone from them) or as stated by other people there are plenty of independent phone retailers on the high street who will also do it for you there and thenfor a small fee. Also if you just type in unlockng codes for your make and model of phone on a search engine it will bring you tons of companies that offer this service, you just make a small payment on credit or debt card. howeveri would urge you to think carefully because by unlocking your phone it WILL null and void any warranty that you have on it because you will have altered the way that it was intended to be used. i.e a phone that was manufactured soley for use with a orange sim card.
