As Amelia said focus on your breathing. If you feel your mind is too frantic though another option would be to try to distract yourself. If you are not scared of heights looking out the window might help if not a few more options are to read something, anything even the flight store catalogue, listen to some relaxing music and try to just relax in the sound, or lean your seat back and nap. If none of this works or the panic attack is too intense take a panic attack med prescribed by your Psychiatrist like Xanax and then try one of the things above again. And remember you will get through it.

I think the real question here is why do you think you will have panic attack while flying?  Have you flown before?   Did you know what fear stands for– False Evidence Appearing Real.  Many of our anxities and fears are in our mind.  If we dwell on them too much, we will then trigger our brain which controls our body.  Do you have some relaxation techniques you can use.  What about closing your eyes and thinking good thoughts, reading your bible, listening to classi, cal or inspirational music.  Trying not to think about being in the air, perhaps engage in conversation to another passenger.   You also can try reading a book or writing in a journal.  You just don’t want to give into any worry, anxiety, or fear.   If these don’t work, see if you could take a mild sedative, that will relax or put you a sleep.  I take Mid-nite to help me sleep.  This is a herbal pill with melatonin.

The answer is to face it but be prepared to face it head on and not run from it. Anxiety is apprehension of impending danger. In this our body prepares itself with fight, flight, fright situation. Fear and anxiety are irrational and no logical base. The only way to vanquish them is to face it in controlled manner(Systematic Desensitization and Flooding and with Exposure response prevention). Basically means  to gradually increase the anxiety situation till it no longer bothers you. Don’t run from it for it is bound to grow in that situation. Be strong willed for there is no shortcut way to deal with anxiety. Need to practice mindfulness, accept things as they are without judgement ,and confirm your self with the statement ‘that whats the worst that could happen’. Faith is divine essential and patience. Anxiety stays no more till you start accepting things. Facing anxiety either you emerge strong and brave or you run from it lifelong. Find someone to discuss your emotions and feelings or find a counsellor. Get the bottled up feeling out.
