How can we support corner stores with implementing the new WIC package successfully?
Owners of small-scale stores that do not currently stock healthy foods required under the new WIC package may need financial and technical assistance in order to upgrade their operations. They may need to invest in refrigeration units or other infrastructure to store perishable foods required under the new guidelines. They may need to find new distributors who carry produce or other healthy foods, and/or they may need to learn how to handle and store produce. WIC program staff can work with store owners to clarify the new requirements, but they are not allowed to provide any business development assistance to retailers.
