How can we end poverty in Africa and developing countries?
Anti-poverty programs in Kenya, Tanzania, some parts of Uganda, Senegal and Ghana have been very successful — they have focused on building the capacities of local people to do for themselves, and focused on appropriate technologies: the world cannot sustain every person having a car or living in a single family home, for instance. Also, many programs are now focusing specifically on women, because women are, by far, the biggest victims of poverty, climate change, conflict and other negative influences, and because helping women seems to benefit everyone in the community, whereas helping men just helps the men. There are a lot of success stories, and for them to expand, the focus needs to stay on capacity-building, as well as anti-corruption and anti-arms programs (the massive amount of arms flooding Africa keep many of the areas unstable).
