How Can Visual Perceptual Disabilities Affect My Childs School Performance?
Visual Perceptual skills allow us to interpret and process information that we see correctly. A child who has a Visual Perceptual disability may have difficulty when interpreting shapes, patterns, letters, numerals, and/or symbols. Letters etc. may appear to be reversed such as lowercase ‘m’ being interpreted as lowercase ‘w’ or reversed b/d. Many children demonstrate directionality difficulties until they are 7 years of age. This is quite normal. However, if these difficulties persist over the age of seven, assessment and advice should be sought from your child’s Occupational Therapist.
