How can u detect protein deficiency in both plants and animals?

Plants will make their own protein if there is nitrogen available to them in a biological form. If the soil is nitrogen deficient, then you see reduced growth, perhaps paler leaves. Animals are different. Once animals become protein deficient they will start to mobilise their own proteins from muscle and skin. So you will see thining skin, loss of muscle tone, weakness, lethargy etc. Also, because there is not enough protein in the blood to attract water, fluid gets stuck in the tissues and the animal develops oedema in lower areas of the body. (legs in humans, belly & jaw for grazing animals).
